Managed to do my favourite running route as

29 May 2024

Oliver turned 6 months, 5km down!
My iron was very low after the birth because I had a retained placenta which caused some unnecessary blood loss. This then causes your Haemoglobin (Hb), blood cells that carry oxygen, to drop, so I struggled to even walk afterwards because my body was struggling to carry oxygen around. 300m walking would tire me completely, and don’t even talk about a slight incline.
I’ve been talking my iron regulary which then helps your body to make more Hb again and getting back to normal. I can only now feel that my body is almost back to where it was, although my fitness levels are way down, having laid a good Hb base, I can now work at my fitness again.
If you feel tired for no reason and struggle with any uphill activity, but you know you are fit and strong, then checking your iron levels are always a good idea.
Still walking 30secs every 5 mins, but slowly but surely getting there! I do this to prevent getting injured as I am injury prone. I always struggle with my hips because they are too stiff and my glutes are too weak.
Consistency is definitely better than pushing things too soon too hard and then getting injured before your race.
Even got my voting โœ” with Oliver joining me in the queue, meeting a lot of new people and seeing old friends, a nice outing indeed.
Choose to look at life positively and good things will come to you ๐Ÿ˜‰ You are nearly there just keep at it!

4.1km done after 5 months of taking it super slow ๐Ÿ™‚

27 April 2024

Now only another 17km to go until Ironman Mosselbay!!

There is light at the end of the tunnelย ๐Ÿ‘Œ

And my added running partner is becoming more compliant.

Always work on your goals even if it seems like you are making almost no progress, cause even no progress is still not going backwards but at least stabalizing your hard work until you are ready to take a step forward again.

I have been running around a park like a hamster in a wheel, but you know what, this makes your mind stronger cause you cannot look at the nice things next to the road, you have to focus on what you are doing and dig deep to keep going.

So just keep going, just keep going…ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Walking has replaced my running for the last year!

7 March 2024

For those that don’t know, it is advised not to run 3-5months after giving birth, natural or c-section.
So I haven’t ran in a very very looong time!
I started off with a walk to the park on day 3 post partum, it was like 300m, but was super tired from that little bit, and have worked my way up to 1.5km at 3 month post partum.
I am able to swim 2km and cycle 60km, but running is the discipline which can cause pelvic floor issues, so I am taking it SUPER slooow.
The walking has become quite fun as I have gained a very chatty walking partner in the meantime. I often hear the word Brrrr, not sure what I a supposed to reply to this ๐Ÿค” but I guess I will soon find out.
I still have about 8-9 months to train for my 70.3 Mosselbay Ironman coming up, so I am in no rush, being an injured or sick athlete is way worse than being a little bit unfit.
My motto: Rather undertrain than overtrain ๐Ÿ™‚

New swim partner in the making! ๐Ÿ˜‰ 3 Months.

2 March 2024

Best training partner one can ask for, is the one you teach yourself.
Going to the gym became more challenging, packing for 2 and dragging along a pram, but guess what?!
I get 2 use the moms and tots parking bay! It’s my turn!
Then I swim with Oliver, drop him at Club V and then only, get to do my training for the day.
But guess what? I am still able to do my training and have some me time.
Life will never be the same again, but it is much better, and more exciting with Oliver.

Well you still feel tired 2 days after your exercise session then you know you have a 10 week old!

6 February 2024

Lack of sleep, breast feeding, low iron levels, extra weight, carrying around a fat baby all day can really take it out of you.
So grateful that I could exercise during pregnancy to start fit and healthy, because this post partum period is even more draining than being pregnant and creating a human.
New moms, if u feel tired and just want to give up, that is okey too, take a rest day and start again tomorrow, it is only a period in time, not forever. Think of it as having an injury, it takes a while before you can get back to your old routine, but eventually it happens. Just do the rehad, something small daily counts more than one big thing.
You got this. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Who else has a small baba?

First road cycle back and was it just the perfect day!
